My first Post

Hello, I have decided to try my hand at writing a blog about the daily life on our small farm "Yeramba", here in Brogo which is in the Bega Valley on the South Coast of NSW in Australia.
I don't really know if anyone else will have much interest in our goings on, but I think it will be a good record for us about our daily life.

So to begin... Some background about myself, I moved with my partner to our farm just over a year ago. We named the property “Yeramba” which is Aboriginal for “meeting place under the trees.”
Our aim is to try to live as sustainably as possible. We are trying to have a minimal impact on the land, and we are aiming to grow and produce as much of our food and energy as we can, using organic practices whenever possible.

We currently have 2 dogs,a Maremma Sheepdog and a Kelpie Cross (we are not sure what she is crossed with but she is big for a Kelpie).

Amber the calf

We also have 4 Cows, Sapphire our Jersey milking cow, she has a calf called Crystal, we also have an Illawarra Red cross Angus Heifer named Ruby and another Jersey calf named Amber.

The cows are wonderful, I get so much pleasure out of just watching them in the paddock. We milk Sapphire every morning (well most mornings!), and we are training the other cows to come up to the bale so that they get into the routine of being handled.

At the moment we have 3 Wessex Saddleback pigs and about 10 chooks.
So we are kept busy.

I hope to add more to the blog on a regular basis!!
